SPEECH AND LANGUAGE NEWS Happy June!
For the last month of school, Mrs. Major's articulation students are working on production of their target sounds in words, sentences, and carryover using an iPhone app. The kids are very excited to use the iPhone and to record their voices. They are then able to listen to their word and determine if the target sound was produced accurately. Kindergarten language students are working on following directions and vocabulary, as well as phonemic awareness skills (i.e. rhyming, recognizing sounds in isolation and in words). My upper elementary students are working on understanding idioms, social skills, and auditory memory skills. Be looking for a summer speech packet so the kids can continue with their hard work during the summer vacation. |
SPEECH AND LANGUAGE NEWS
During the fourth quarter Mrs. Marshall's students who have articulation goals have continued to work on their speech production in words, sentences, and connected speech during structured activities and less structured activities such as playing games like "Guess Who". The areas of focus for students who have language goals have included: following directions, summarizing, answering questions pertaining to paragraph length information, and continued practice of auditory memory strategies. It has been a pleasure to work with my returning students from last year, and students who have been new to me this year. Thank you to all the parents who helped their children practice their speech assignments each week. Your home practice really made a difference! Summer packets will be sent home prior to summer vacation. It is entirely up to you and your child how much of the packet they complete over the summer. The students work so hard during the school year, so I hope they all have a fun and relaxing summer!
Look for news in September about an exciting new articulation therapy approach that we will be implementing with the use of iPads!!! |
