The Northeast Navy Band Brass Quintet stopped by Peace Dale Elementary School on February 9th, 2023. They are a small part of a nearly 30-piece military marching band that only has brass instruments. There were two trumpets, a trombone, a French horn, and a tuba.
The officers put on an excellent performance combining music and imagination together to put on quite a show. It featured songs they have performed numerous times and a few they made up right on the spot with just one topic to help them build their music. The topic for this performance was a swan on a lake. They created a lovely winding jazz tune that culminated in what sounded like the swan taking flight!
Students were enthralled with their performance, and especially found the rendition of the Star Wars theme super exciting. They were clapping along and completely mesmerized by the rendition. Students were dancing in their seats and were so well-behaved that they received a shout-out from their teacher Ms. Pierce.
As a district, we’d like to thank Jon Starr of the Navy Band for helping to provide some information on the group and we’d like to thank the rest of the group for putting on such an amazing performance. We can’t wait to see the next performance at Matunuck on February 15th!
